The Telangana Government has just recently initiated a new initiative called ‘Hy-Fi’ to make Hyderabad the first Wi-Fi enabled city in south India. This particular initiative is being done to promote Hyderabad as a Global Lifestyle Destination and keeping in mind that Hyderabad is the second largest exporter of IT in the country.
Karimnagar, the epicentre of Telangana statehood movement, the third largest city in the state and Warangal, have just recently been included in the Smart City mission program and Karimnagar alone will be developed at a cost of INR 1,878 crore.
Keeping in mind the objective of the Smart Cities Mission to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions, the Government of Telangana is working closely with the Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV’s) on fast pace to ensure that their proposals are selected for Smart Cities.
The Government of Telangana is currently focusing on enhancing security and surveillance, developing citizens’ centric mobile applications, promoting business and commercial activities of the cities and ensuring that there are many internet hotspots available within their cities. The Region is focusing a lot on the construction aspect for development of new Greenfield Projects and retrofitting of state-of-the-art technologies in the existing infrastructure.
